Trader Joe’s Acai Bowl
This healthy acai bowl uses Trader Joe’s frozen acai puree packets to make a thick and creamy smoothie bowl. It’s loaded with protein, antioxidants, and fiber! Perfect for a filling breakfast or post workout snack.

Trader Joe’s Frozen Acai Puree:
Trader Joe’s carries organic acai puree packets and they’re a steal!
A 14-ounce bag is 3.99 and contains 4 packets. I love that they’re organic AND unsweetened. Most brands I’ve seen pack in a lot of added sugar. They come in a bright purple bag! If you can’t find it, ask an employee to help you because they’re worth it.

Why You’ll Love it:
This acai bowl packs in protein, healthy fats, and fiber, plus it’s loaded with antioxidants! It reminds me of a PB and J with a fruity flavor and a subtle nuttiness.
It takes 2 minutes to make it and it’s the perfect base for delicious toppings! It makes one large bowl or two mini bowls. I prefer to split it and share it with my daughter.

Key Ingredients:
- Banana – For a creamy consistency! And natural sweetness. It doesn’t need to be frozen – fresh is perfect.
- Greek yogurt – For additional protein and creaminess. I use Trader Joe’s nonfat plain Greek yogurt. You can use flavored if you prefer, but it does add sugar.
- Peanut butter – One tablespoon is all you need for a subtle nutty flavor and some extra protein! Feel free to add more if you like.
- Vanilla protein – I used plant-based protein, but a whey blend also works. I don’t like to add more than 2 tablespoons flavor-wise.
- Frozen acai – You need one packet! I bought mine at Trader Joe’s, but any well-stocked grocery store should carry them. Look for unsweetened versions. Acai berries are packed with antioxidants and beneficial plant compounds.
- Strawberries -Frozen mixed berries work great too!
- Almond milk – It’s low in calories with a mild flavor and creamy consistency.

How to Make an Acai Bowl:
This acai bowl takes 2 minutes to make!
- Combine ingredients: In your blender, combine all the ingredients. Start with the soft ingredients like the banana, yogurt, and peanut butter.
- Blend: Turn the blender on low speed, then gradually increase the speed. If the mixture isn’t moving at all, add a little bit more almond milk.

- Scrape: Stop the blender and use a spatula to scrape down the sides of the blender. Blend again until thick and smooth.
- Serve: Scoop the acai smoothie into a bowl, add your favorite toppings, and enjoy!

Recipe Tips:
- For best results, use a high-speed blender. A smoothie bowl requires less liquid to get a thick texture. A high-speed blender is built with a powerful motor to pulverize frozen ingredients.
- Stop and scrape the sides as necessary. If the mixture stops moving or if fruit chunks are stuck on the side, stop the blender. Use a spatula to push all the fruit toward the blades, then blend again. Repeat this process as many times as needed.
- Customize to fit your tastebuds. For a sweeter smoothie bowl, add a drizzle of honey or swap the almond milk with apple juice.

Toppings:
Toppings are my favorite part. They add crunch, chew, or sweetness. The best place to find topping ideas is in your pantry and fridge.
Here’s a few ideas to get you started.
- Granola – I love Trader Joe’s organic toasted coconut granola!
- Cereal – Crumble up bigger pieces to add some crunch.
- Nuts – Sliced almonds (my fave!), pistachios, walnuts, pecans, or peanuts.
- Nut butter – Melt it first so it drizzles evenly on top!
- Dried fruit -Cranberries, cherries, raisins, etc.
- Fresh fruit – Sliced bananas, pomegranate arils, fresh berries, kiwi, mango, etc.
