Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Chocolate Chunk Cookies

Trader Joe’s gluten free chocolate chunk cookies with sea salt are delicious! They remind me of the mini chocolate chip cookies I got from the grocery store bakery as a kid.

Trader Joe’s Gluten Free Cookies:

I saw these gluten free chocolate chunk cookies at Trader Joe’s last week and my heart jumped for joy. Could they be as good as they look?

The answer is yes! But it does come with a caveat. These cookies taste just like the store-bought chocolate chip cookies my kiddos get from our local Publix bakery.

So if you’re expecting them to taste homemade, they don’t. But they do taste delicious!! They’re big, thick, and chewy with a quintessential crackled top.

I thoroughly enjoyed them! Let me know what you think in the comments at the bottom of the page.

nutrition facts and ingredients on the back of a package of gluten free cookies.

It’s important to check the label if you have allergies because Trader Joe’s does change their products sometimes, for example, their lemon bars.

At the time of writing 2/7/2024, the ingredients are as follows:

  • Semisweet chocolate chunks (sugar, unsweetened chocolate, cocoa butter, dextrose, soy lecithin)
  • Vanilla extract (water, ethyl alcohol, vanilla bean extractives)
  • Rice flour
  • Unsalted butter (pasteurized cream [milk], natural flavor)
  • Brown sugar
  • Potato starch
  • Tapioca starch
  • Eggs
  • Sugar
  • Sea salt
  • Xanthan gum
  • Baking powder (sodium acid pyrophosphate, baking soda, cornstarch, monocalcium phosphate)
  • Baking soda
  • Natural flavors

It makes sense to me that these cookies taste great because they use similar ingredients as my favorite gluten-free all-purpose flour – Bob’s Red Mill’s 1 to 1 Gluten Free Baking Flour.

It has rice flour, potato starch, tapioca flour, and xanthan gum in it.

Where do I find them in store?

You can find Trader Joe’s GF chocolate chunk cookies in the baked goods section. Ours is on the endcap of the first aisle.

It’s above the sweet breads and cakes next to the regular chocolate chunk cookie.

If you can’t find it, ask a Trader Joe’s employee. I’ve only had positive interactions with their employees! They can tell you if there in stock.

Are they worth it?

You get a 3-pack of gluten-free cookies for 4.49. But again these cookies are NOT small. They’re hefty and large!

For me, they’re well worth the price. But I buy gluten free products all the time and I know the cost of gluten free items is astronomical. Not to mention, some of them taste like chalky cardboard.

Gluten-Free Products at Trader Joe’s:

Trader Joe’s has a lot of gluten-free products to choose from! The tricky part is they’re not all in one spot, which makes sense since there’s so dang many.

You can ask an employee for a list of all their gluten-free products. I had to ask two employees because the first one didn’t know it existed.

Here’s a few of my gluten-free favorites:

  • Gluten-free muffins (In any flavor!)
  • Gluten-free cinnamon raisin bread
  • Gluten-free pumpkin bread mix
  • Super Sour Scandinavian Swimmers (I’m obsessed!)
  • Dark Chocolate Peanut Butter Cups
